Property SummaryBrook House, in the historical village of Nunney, is the most wonderfully unique property bursting with character. Having the remains of an imposing 14th Century Castle as its neighbour creates a romantic and astonishing backdrop to be enjoyed from the pretty courtyard with the brook below.
Recently renovated to the highest of standard, all work undertaken throughout the home has been sympathetically and beautifully accomplished by master craftsmen. The result of such expert execution is an exquisite home with all its history and charm lovingly, and thoughtfully, preserved.
The current vendors undertook this project and at every turn new layers of the past were uncovered from original fireplaces to remnants of masonry and carpentry – such relics are believed to have survived from the castle itself and have been carefully incorporated into the renovation of Brook House.
The original flagstone flooring, coupled with blue lias flagstones, are exposed throughout the ground floor with its two reception rooms and open plan kitchen with generous dining area. Both receptions have original fireplaces with wood-burners providing perfect spaces to relax and unwind. The much-revered Bath based architect, Simon Morray-Jones, submitted the history/conservation report and full drawings for the planning application. He carefully reworked (where permissible) the entire space, including the original wing which had been demolished. He designed the addition of a glass sitting room to the back of the property, framing the view of the castle in all its glory and splendour.
The innovative use of the unique frameless glass doors cleanly fold back to expose the courtyard from both this space and also from the kitchen to create a wonderful free-flowing experience of bringing the outside in.
Upstairs original, Dutch Elm floorboards flow continuously throughout the three double bedrooms. Ancient doors, exposed beam-work and limestone mullion windows serve to further enhance the ongoing feeling of charm and history. Two bathrooms have been furnished with high end fittings in keeping with the overall quality of this exceptional home.
The courtyard is a spacious area which wraps around the property. The sunrises and sunsets illuminate the castle and highlight its architectural features. A pretty little wooden bridge over the brook provides access from the side of the property to the castle.
