Property SummaryVery attractive house in one of the best locations in Wells with unbelievably good views over St Thomas Church, Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Tor and far reaching views of the Somerset Levels and hills beyond.
The house is well designed and has been carefully maintained by the current owner. It is full of light, typical of a 1970s house and the real treat is at the rear. Straight off the kitchen is a large deck with an awning which in current temperatures has the added bonus of keeping the house cool.
The view from the deck gives the sense of being in a village with a clear view of St Thomas church spire surrounded by trees. The garden which is incredibly private also has steps down into an area of sloping lawn and shrubs . There is also a graveled area which leads to the potting shed/small workshop and garage which has an electric up and over door.
Upstairs the views get even better it is from here that the view encompasses, the Cathedral, Glastonbury Tor and the magnificent view that stretches for miles. It is hard to emphasise just how good this view is.
The accommodation consists of sitting room with feature fireplace which opens into the dining room which then in turn leads into a conservatory with doors to the deck.
The kitchen and good size utility room are at the back and also lead onto the deck. A useful addition is a generous study that could also be a bedroom and next to this is a downstairs WC. Upstairs is a master bedroom with ensuite shower room with large shower, two further bedroom and a family bathroom.
The garage has ample space for one car and leads into a small workshop/potting shed.
Teagle Close is a particularly quite location near the top of St Thomas Street. The current owner says it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the Cathedral. There is the direct walk or through Tor Woods, which is great for dog walking.
Wells is the smallest Cathedral city in England, and offers all the usual amenities that you would expect in a small town including banks, doctors surgeries, dentists and a selection of primary schools and the excellent Blue School and Wells Cathedral school. The high street is vibrant with a small selection of the usual chain stores plus a variety of independent shops and restaurants and pubs as well as a twice weekly market and a choice of supermarkets including Waitrose. At the very heart of the city is the medieval Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Vicars’ Close (reputed to be the oldest surviving residential street in Europe).
The Wells festivals are increasing in popularity each year with the Literary Festival now taking place over two weeks and attracting big names in the literary world, the very well attended Food Festival and many regular Arts festivals. With both the Cathedral School and the Cathedral itself there are endless opportunities for musical concerts, plus there are regular shows and comedy nights in the Little Theatre.
