Property Summary
Hillbury Cottage was once a woodman's cottage and as a consequence has a lot of amazing original features. The house has lovely views across to the church, over open fields and is in a private, very peaceful setting. Over the years the property has been substantially extended and refurbished so that it now provides accommodation for modern living whilst retaining bags of character. The main features are the fantastic large floor to ceiling windows in both the sitting room and master bedroom which give wonderful views over fields- no curtains needed! The farm house style kitchen has handmade cupboards and attractive light coloured flagstones. The whole house is immaculately presented. The separate accommodation is a small cottage providing a kitchenette, sitting room/bedroom and shower room. This could either be a large office, overspill accommodation or could provide an income stream.
Outside
The gardens of about half an acre have been carefully landscaped and are a particular feature especially as they also have a stream and natural wooded area on the boundary.
The timber framed garage will easily take 2 cars and provides outdoor storage – one of the store rooms could easily be converted into an office.
The icing on the cake is the wooden gazebo adjacent to the decked patio which is a perfect spot for evening drinks!
Situation
Pylle is a tiny rural village with a beautiful church and Manor House set in a network of single-tracked lanes across some of the best Somerset countryside. Added bonus is it is not too far from the A37 which takes you up to Bristol and down to the A303. Castle Cary station (Paddington) is a 10-minute drive and Templecombe (Waterloo) is less than 30 minutes.
The nearby village of Pilton provides all the amenities expected a of a larger village. It is a very active with numerous clubs, a playgroup, a bus to a local primary school, very smart village hall (which hosts the Post Office), playground, playing fields with clubhouse and a public house. There are many events throughout the year, but most notable is the very well attended September Pilton weekend including village flower show and fete, barn dance, tug of war, cricket match and 'fun sports day' (see www.piltonvillage.co.uk).
There are superstores, a supermarket and regular farmers market at nearby Shepton Mallet. Plus Thorners Farm shop is only a couple of miles away on the A37. Only 5 miles away is the beautiful historic Cathedral City of Wells which has regular markets, a Waitrose, plus two other supermarkets, plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, independent and national stores, plus all the amenities that you would expect from a small town. Fifteen minutes away is the very fashionable small town of Bruton which has the very popular restaurant/coffee/bread shop called 'At the Chapel' and the world famous Hauser and Wirth Art Gallery.
Bristol and Bath and Frome are all within approximately an hours drive and a mainline station with trains to London Paddington, is situated less than 5 miles away at Castle Cary, with further mainline stations at Yeovil, Bristol and Bath. Bristol International Airport, which offers long-haul flights, is 16 miles away.
