Somerton offers all the usual amenities of a market town and has a small independent supermarket.
Local schools include King Ina Primary in Somerton, neraby Keinton Mandeville primary, Butleigh C of E primary school and Huish Episcopi School of Science and Crispin School Street. Independent schools include Millfield in nearby Street, the Taunton schools, Perrot hill and the Sherborne schools. There is a well regarded sixth form college at nearby Street, plus others in Yeovil and Taunton.
