Property SummaryGlengarth House is a fabulous Victorian semi-detached house of generous proportions within easy walking distance of the centre of Wells.
Currently the original Victorian part of the house is run as a highly respected and successful B&B. Off the elegant hallway is what would have been the main sitting room which currently acts as the dining room for guests. This is lovely light room courtesy of its bay window and the large newly installed sash windows, the original fireplace is still in situ and is now fitted with a coal effect gas fire for ease of use. There is a second sitting room which has access from the hallway, currently used as a downstairs bedroom by the vendor but retaining its original features.
Upstairs on the first floor are three double bedrooms all with en-suites and on the 2nd floor are two further double bedrooms and en-suites. All of the rooms both upstairs and downstairs could very simply fall back into use as a fantastic family home.
In addition to the ample accommodation of the original house the current owners have extended at the rear to create their own spacious living area. The kitchen is both large and well appointed with a good range of base and wall units, eye level double oven, fitted microwave and gas hob. To the side of the kitchen is a utility room and beyond is the newly created, extremely large and light sitting room and dining area. This offers a fantastic space for family living and entertaining, double doors open onto the south facing garden. Not only have the owners created this lovely living space downstairs they have also made a separate entrance with a hall and cloakroom along with two bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor.
The south facing garden is decked and laid with fake grass for ease, there is also a garden shed ideal for storage. The rear of the house and garden back onto the football pitch and is very private. At the front there is ample parking for 4 or 5 cars which is rarely found in the centre of Wells.
The Cathedral City of Wells offers all the usual attractions of a market town including banks, doctors surgeries and dentists with supermarkets including Waitrose, Morrisons and Tesco, a cinema and a market every Wednesday and Saturday. The high street is vibrant with a small selection of the usual chain stores plus a variety of independent shops, pubs and restaurants including the award winning "Goodfellows". At the very heart of the city is the medieval Cathedral, Bishops Palace and Vicars' Close (reputed to be the oldest surviving residential street in Europe). The Wells festivals are increasing in popularity each year with the Literary Festival now over two weeks and attracting big names, the very well attended Food Festival and many regular Arts festivals. With both the Cathedral School and the Cathedral itself there are endless opportunities for musical concerts, plus there are regular shows and comedy nights in the Little Theatre. Golf Clubs are in Wells and on the Mendips. Sailing and fishing can be found on the Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes.
Bath and Bristol are within commuting distance and there is a main line railway station with links to London (Paddington) in Castle Cary just a few miles away with trains to London in approximately 90 minutes. Street and Glastonbury are 20 minutes away. Bristol airport is an easy 30 minute drive.
