Town/City: Castle Cary
Postcode: BA7 7AE
Sale Type: Under Offer
Lodge View is set in a very peaceful no through lane just a few steps away from the bustling high street of Castle Cary. The rooms are particularly light and airy and take in lovely views of Lodge Hill and the historic buildings of Castle Cary town. The front door is on the side of the house, opening into a central hallway. To the back of the house is a spacious sitting room, double aspect, with sliding patio doors making the most of the morning sunshine and views over the garden to Lodge Hill. A contemporary wood burning stove is a stylish focal point and lovely for cosy winter evenings. This room then leads through to a kitchen/dining room – an extension added in 2012. Fitted with sleek white units, integrated appliances, eye level ovens and an induction hob, it is modern and practical. Wood worktops complement oak flooring. Steps take you down to a dining area with more sliding doors opening onto a terrace, and a wide window seat - the perfect spot to sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy the garden. There is also a back door to a covered storage area for logs and things. On the other side of the hallway to the front of the house is, firstly, a super utility/laundry room with fitted storage and a sink, and a very spacious office - wonderfully light, with lots of room for large desks, shelving and storage. This room could also make a generous bedroom. At this end of the house there is also a cloakroom and downstairs loo and a side door leading outside, offering potential for self-contained accommodation.
Upstairs, a spacious landing leads to four bedrooms and a family bathroom. The bedrooms are all fresh and light and generous size. One of the bedrooms has a very large eaves cupboard – big enough for small children to play in! The master bedroom is particularly spacious, has an en-suite shower room, and wonderful views over the town to Lodge Hill.
From the lane, a five bar gate opens into a gravel area enclosed by a stone wall with pretty Magnolia and flowering cherry trees in the corner. There is space for several cars as well as a double garage. Pathways lead along both sides of the house to the back garden, with a covered storage area on one side. The back garden is enclosed by old stone walls and fencing, with a large central lawn and planted borders. There is a greenhouse, shed and composting area in one corner, and some raised beds with soft fruit and asparagus. A wonderful espalier fig produces a bounty of late summer fruit.
Castle Cary is a bustling town with many attractive and historic buildings including its C19th Market house and the C18th Roundhouse. The main street offers an assortment of individual shops, cafes and restaurants, a delicatessen, a wine shop and a contemporary art gallery. Market day falls on a Tuesday where fish, organic vegetables and homemade breads are sold on the cobbles in front of the Market House. The Newt in Somerset has recently opened nearby. A recent article in the Telegraph quoted 'The Newt is one of the most exceptional country house hotels Britain has seen'. The gardens are open to the public and visitors are welcome to walk through amazing woodland gardens and to dine in the restaurants and cafes.
Large supermarkets are located in the towns of Wincanton and Shepton Mallet which are both a short drive away and the fashionable town of Bruton is also very close by. It has several well-known restaurants, pubs and bars including “At the Chapel”, “Osip” and “The Roth Bar” at the world-renowned Hauser & Wirth Gallery. The town also has a doctors’ surgery, pharmacy, vet, post office, several mini supermarkets, fuel station and numerous independent shops. For further shopping and recreational activities Frome, Bath, Bristol, Wells, Salisbury and Wells are all within easy driving distance.

The A303 a few miles south provides a direct route to London via the M3 and there is a mainline rail service from Castle Cary to London Paddington (under 2 hours) and also the new train to Waterloo. Airports in Bristol and Exeter offer connections within the UK, Europe and beyond.
From the A371 take the turning for Castle Cary (North Street). Continue down the hill into the centre of town.
