Wow factor-Beautifully refurbished cottage dating back to the 1850's. Lilac Cottage is a very attractive cottage that has been stylishly refurbished to a high standard. It has been carefully designed with lots of roof lights, soothing colours and has been extended to provide a stunning open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room which has bifold doors leading into the garden. New carpets have recently been fitted and the entire house redecorated with new light fittings, additional sockets and a new downstairs loo.
It is obvious on entering the hallway that there has been significant attention to detail, the colours are subtle and a new wooden floor installed. The new parts of the house compliment the old, such as the window seats in the thick walls, lovely inglenook fireplace in the sitting room which has a Charnwood wood burner alongside the old bread oven. The kitchen has exposed and painted stonework, an original stove that is now a decorative feature in the light filled modern kitchen that has engineered oak flooring, newly tiled splash back, oak work tops and a large Rangemaster cooker. Leading off from the kitchen is a very good sized utility room with doors to the garden, walk in storage room, a useful pantry with plenty of shelves and garage.
Upstairs there is a light filled panelled corridor that leads to 4 good sized bedrooms, one of which has an ensuite shower room plus there is a family bathroom. The house has plenty of storage.
At the front is a gravel area for parking with flower beds plus two Lilac trees. To the rear is a south facing pretty garden that has a stone paved area next to the bifold doors and area of lawn surrounded by shrubs and trees which give a good degree of privacy. There are raised beds for vegetables, greenhouse and a new shed and the most delightful Dutch Barn which can be used as storage or a workshop.
Lilac Cottage is in the main High Street but is opposite an open field giving the house privacy and good views. Leigh on Mendip is a popular village on the Mendip Hills that was once part of the manor of Mells. It has a 15th Century Church, a village hall which holds numerous events and societies, a public house and there is a recreational field with clubhouse. A local shop can be found at the nearby village of Stoke St Michael. Other neighbouring villages offer a doctor’s surgery, general stores and several pubs. www.leigh-on-mendip.org.uk
