The house is situated on a quiet country lane with just a few other houses and surrounded by countryside – great for walking and exploring with the Mendip hills within easy reach.
Walcolmbe Farmhouse is Grade II listed former farm house and has heaps of typical old farmhouse charm, including inglenook fireplace, original flagstone floors and exposed beams.
On the ground floor entrance door opens to the entrance hallway giving access to the kitchen/diner, and two reception rooms. The reception rooms are situated to the front of the building and enjoy a southerly aspect. Both reception rooms have log burners. The kitchen/dining room is a good sized room with oil fired Aga and views of the enclosed terrace and fields beyond. The boot room is beyond the kitchen/dining room. Across the hall there is a utility room and 2 cloakrooms.
Stairs lead up from the hallway to the first floor where there are six bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with separate shower, guest bedroom with en-suite shower room and four further bedrooms which have the use of the family bathroom.
There is a terraced area with garden table and chairs – a perfect spot for BBQ’s in the summer! And a good sized lawned garden.
Walcombe Farmhouse is set in a quiet rural location just 1 mile from Wells.
Wells is the smallest Cathedral city in England, and offers all the usual amenities that you would expect in a small town including banks, doctors surgeries, dentists and a selection of primary schools and the excellent Blue School and Wells Cathedral school. The high street is vibrant with a small selection of the usual chain stores plus a variety of independent shops and restaurants and pubs as well as a twice weekly market and a choice of supermarkets including Waitrose. At the very heart of the city is the medieval Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Vicars’ Close (reputed to be the oldest surviving residential street in Europe).
Both Bath (21 miles) and Bristol (22 miles) are within commuting distance and there is a main line railway station with links to London in Castle Cary 13 miles away. Street and Glastonbury are 20 minutes away and Bristol airport is an easy 30-minute drive.
The property is available end of April/beginning of May and would make a fantastic family home.
