The Whyte House has huge character and with some work great potential to become a lovely family home. It has some of the most beautiful views in Somerset being at the top of a hill looking down on to the levels. Another big attraction of this house is that it is a short walk into the town centre.
Hall, Large Drawing Room, Sitting Room, Dining Room, Garden Room, Kitchen, Cloakroom, Master Bedroom with en-suite Dressing & Shower Room, Bedroom 2, Bedroom 3, Family Bathroom, Bedroom 4, Covered Paved Terrace, Large Garden, Wooden Shed, Wooden Garage.
The wonderful light filled drawing room has triple aspect windows and fantastic views from the french doors, plus there are two are elegant bay windows and a large north facing window. Other features include original wood flooring and an attractive fireplace. The kitchen/breakfast room is at the rear of the house making good use of the view. The hallway has an elegant staircase and unusual bordered flagstone flooring. Upstairs the bedrooms are spacious and light filled with two at the rear having magnificent views.
The property has not been lived in for some years and is need of some structural work and refurbishment.
The south facing garden is an important feature; it is private with spectacular views, pretty cottage garden and small orchard (just under quarter of an acre). There is a paved terrace with a flourishing vine that covers the whole pergola which is accessed from both the drawing room and kitchen/garden room and gives the house a mediterranean feel. From here there are steps down to several pretty terraced areas and also access to an orchard with mature trees and access to the front of the property. Parking can be inside the double gates that lead to the orchard area or directly in front of the house. It is not possible for other cars to drive past as this lane is very narrow and is a cul-de-sac.
The property is semi-detached and is the last house at the end of this this lane consisting of a few houses. It is not listed
Whyte House is situated in the Historic town of Langport overlooking the Somerset levels, one of England’s most unchanged landscapes. This small thriving town has a wide range of facilities including health care facilities, supermarket shops, banks, library doctors, dentists, public house, cafes, churches and primary school. The town is becoming increasingly popular, perhaps partly due to the very stylish restaurant cafe´ and deli shop known as ‘Kitchen’. There are pleasant walks around the town and attractive picnic areas beside the river.
Somerton provides similar amenities and there are also the nearby bigger towns of Glastonbury, Street and larger commercial centres in Taunton and Yeovil all within easy reach which offer a full range of sporting, recreational, shopping and arts facilities.
Communications to this area are excellent with the A303/M3 to London; the A303 dual carriageway is about 5 miles away which leads to the M5 at Taunton. Railway connections are also good with Castle Cary and Taunton serving London Paddington and Yeovil/Sherborne serving London Waterloo.
There are several excellent schools for children of all ages within reasonable driving time including in the independent sector: Millfield, Hazelgrove, The Bruton Schools, Sherborne Schools, and Taunton schools. There are also superb primary schools in Langport, High Ham (nearby village) and Long Sutton as well as the nearby Huish Academy State School and Strode Sixth Form College in Street.
Please do not follow google maps as the house cannot be accessed in the way it looks on the map.
On entering the town from the north, as North Street turns sharply right, instead take the steep left hand turn up Hill St. At the top of the hill by the house with the big arched double doors, turn right into Bush Place. The house can be seen on the left behind the wall.
