Longfield Farmhouse, North Brewham, Bruton
This rural spot outside Bruton in Somerset is home to a pretty 4 bedroom house that's been owned by the same family for 18 years. Read what they have to say about why they have loved living here.
Can you describe how you felt when you first saw Longfield Farmhouse?
Yes, it was love at first sight! It’s so cosy, yet spacious and light, especially since the addition of the French doors to the garden which flood the downstairs with a fantastic light.
What are some of your favourite features of the house?
The views! From every window and every door! We boast one of the best of Alfred’s Tower. And two fires and Aga make a fantastically warm and welcoming feel.
Tell us about the garden
Over the years it's has filled up with an array of carefully chosen shrubs and perennials in the borders. It is now lovely all year round, but especially of course spring through to autumn. We are so hopeful that the next owners will be gardeners and continue to nurture and enjoy everything we have done! The garden leading in to the kitchen and sitting room has also made for an amazing summer party space.
What about the location? What are the benefits?
The situation is so wonderfully rural and yet totally accessible being so close to Bruton, and then there’s the A303 so close too - to take you anywhere! And to be so near the beautiful Stourhead House and gardens, and all the woodland, is just amazing. It’s a great little patch of neighbours, just close enough to be there and stop any feeling of isolation but far enough away for complete privacy. Lovely dog walks in the woods and also on the edge of Salisbury Plain - it’s all so close!
What will you miss most?
Everything. We found this house 18 years ago and all these years later we still love it and are very sad that it is no longer where we need to live. It is, indeed, a happy house, and we would really like to move the whole house, not just ourselves! We will be very sad to go, and are so hopeful that the next owners will love it as much as we have.
